Rag Quilt

I haven't finished my post-baby robe. I know I should just bite the bullet and figure out the arm scye issue. And probably tear out the hood and resew it with a lining. And then tear off the pockets and resew them in the right spot. But is that fun? Is that fulfilling? I just can't get the energy up to get it done... especially since I spotted a cool maternity/nursing robe at the store for just $20. Hard to swallow that when I spent $30 on a robe that still isn't right. Don't go thinking sewing is going to save you money. The poor kids in China can sew better and less expensively than you can.

And no - I haven't whipped up the maternity jeans yet either. But I have what I need to do that project. So as soon as I have a free night, I'll tackle it. Husband, will you be around tomorrow night?

In the meantime, I've been thinking of making a quilt for baby 2. Lucy got one and it is the best blanket for floor play. It doesn't shift around on a hard floor like other blankets do. I've never made a quilt before, and there seems to be a number of pitfalls surrounding quiltmaking. But how about a rag quilt? The edges are all raw and face-up (fun for a toddler to fiddle with), and seems relatively failproof.

Now I just need to find some cheap fun flannel quilt fabric for this project. Why is it that starting a new sewing project (sounds a lot like child-making) is so much more fun than finishing one?

Try the rag quilt. I just completed my first one, and I've never done any sewing beyond hemming curtains. I took photos of the whole process, you can see them here:

Jo-Ann Fabrics had a good sale last week when I bought my flannel. Good luck!
